They often walk together, but they are not identical. They are siblings. They dance together. But healing and forgiveness touch slightly different sacred chords. Healing is about the self. Forgiveness often involves another — or a part of you you’ve been blaming. Forgiveness is a release. Healing is a return.
Healing = the repair or restoration of what was wounded, fractured, or sick. (It’s the wholeness that returns.)
Forgiveness = the release of judgement, resentment, and anger about the wound. (It’s the lifting of the weight that was poisoning the heart.)
Forgiveness can be the doorway to healing, but healing includes more than just forgiveness — it includes love, trust, strength, wisdom, and the rebirth of the true self.
Example:
You can forgive someone but still be healing the deeper emotional scar they left. You can also heal from something where no forgiveness was needed — only understanding.
